“Before success comes in any man’s life, he is sure to meet with much temporary defeat, and, perhaps, some failure. When defeat overtakes a man, the easiest and most logical thing to do is to quit. That is exactly what the majority of men do. More than five hundred of the most successful men this country has ever known told the author their greatest success came just one step beyond the point at which defeat had overtaken them.”
― Napoleon Hill,
Think and Grow Rich is by far one of my favorite books to read. There are so many quotes to take away from Napoleon Hill but let’s put a spotlight on the above mentioned. These words stand out to me every single time I read them because it is the essence in which success is born. Through not giving up! Success does not have to mean getting money, it can mean every success you achieve in any aspect of your life. Unfortunately, most people quit at any hint of defeat. A defeat could be a person giving up on their workouts at the gym because it got too hard, or were not mentally prepared to have the discipline to stay on track. The most important thing to remember is having that discipline can power you through any obstacle, it can be the seed to your immediate growth. You will often surprise yourself with how much you can handle. If you listen to any successful person speak they will have a story of failure well before any story of success. This is because staring in the face of defeat is the only way we can truly understand what we are capable of. On the flip side, the success that is stemmed from the root of that failure is much more satisfying in celebration. You see, the celebration is the failure. It is the reason we get up in the morning, failure is the reason we stay up late nights working. Nobody wants to feel the pain that was caused by trying your hardest and still coming up short, so, often we quit to avoid such a feeling. But what if you did not quit? What if you told yourself that the story does not end until you say it does. Keep writing chapters until you’re victorious, not until then will you have your own story of failure to success. Napoleon Hill’s words are timeless and shall live on beyond any of our lives. I would recommend “Think and Grow Rich” to any person who is ready for their mind to be unlocked. It is not a Motivational book. It is an eye-opening experience that will have you thinking on a new level.
I want to leave you with this quote also from “Think and Grow Rich”
“You are the master of your destiny. You can influence, direct and control your own environment. You can make your life what you want it to be.”
Nobody is coming to save you! Remember this. You control your own destiny. What you become in life is a direct result of what you choose to do with each day. Forget the mistakes, forget the circumstances, we all have a story of failure, it is up to you to make that story a success. Get better every day.
